Descriptions of Jesus Christ in the Bible

#1. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Seed of the Woman.

This description is found in Genesis 3:15 as follows:

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

The bruising of the seed of the woman occurred when Jesus Christ was crucified and died on the cross for the sins of mankind. The bruising of the head of the serpent occurred when Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead and took the keys of Hades and Death from the ruler of the kingdom of darkness. This is recorded in Revelation 1:18, which says:

I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

This authority is also depicted in Matthew 28:18, which says:

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.’”

Similar sentiments are echoed in Colossians 2:14-15 as follows:

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

#2. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as God.

This description of Jesus Christ comes from Psalm 45:6-7:

“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”

And also Hebrews 1:8-9

“But to the Son He says, ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.’”

#3. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

This description of Jesus Christ is recorded in Isaiah 9:6 as follows:

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

#4. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the ultimate High Priest.

This description of Jesus Christ is found in Hebrews 5:5-6:

“So also Christ did not glorify himself to become high priest, but it was He who said to Him, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten You.’ As He also says in another place, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

And Hebrews 5:5-10

“Called by God as high priest ‘according to the order of Melchizedek’”

#5. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Begotten Son of God.

This description of Jesus Christ is recorded in the following scriptures:

Psalm 2:7

“I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son; today I have begotten You.’”

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

John 3:18

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Hebrews 1:5

“For to which of the angels did He ever say, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You’? And again: ‘I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son’”.”

Hebrews 5:5

“So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him, ‘You are My Son; today I have begotten You.’”

And 1 John 4:9

“In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.”

#6. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Son of Man.

This description of Jesus Christ is highlighted in several scriptures, including the following:

Daniel 7:13

“I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.””

Matthew 8:20

“And Jesus said to him, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’”

Matthew 11:19

“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”

Matthew 13:41

“The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend and those who practice lawlessness.”

Revelation 1:13

“And in the midst of the seven lampstands, One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.”

Revelation 14:14

“Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle.”

#7. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as a Tender Plant and a Root out of Dry Ground.

This is recorded in Isaiah 53:2. The scripture says:

“For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.”

#8. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as a man of sorrows.

This description of Jesus Christ is found in Isaiah 53:3 as follows:

“He is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.”

#9. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as My Righteous Servant.

This description is found in Isaiah 53:11, which says:

“He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My Righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities.”

#10. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.

These descriptions of Jesus Christ are highlighted in Revelation 1:5 as follows:

“And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.”

#11. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

These descriptions are found in Revelation 1:8. The scripture says:

“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’”

#12. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the First and the Last.

These descriptions of Jesus Christ are recorded in the following scriptures:

Revelation 1:11

“‘Saying, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,’ and ‘what you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.’”

Revelation 1:17

“And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.”

Revelation 22:13

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

#13. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

This description of Jesus Christ is found in several scriptures, including the following:

Daniel 3:25

“‘Look!’ he answered, ‘I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.’”

Mark 1:1

“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”

Luke 1:35

“And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.’”

John 20:31

“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

Revelation 2:18. The scripture says

“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things say the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass.’”

#14. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God.

This description of Jesus Christ is recorded in the following scriptures:

John 1:29

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’”

John 1:36

“And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God!’”

Revelation 5:6

“And I  looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out to all the earth.”

Revelation 5:8

“Now when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.”

#15. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, and the Beginning of the creation of God.

These descriptions of Jesus Christ are found in Revelation 3:14 as follows:

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things say the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God.’”

#16. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David, and the Bright and Morning Star.

These descriptions are contained in the following scriptures:

Revelation 5:5

“But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.’”

Revelation 22:16

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
