Of all the beasts of the field that God had made, which one of them was the most cunning?

The serpent (Genesis 3:1)

What did the serpent want to know from the woman concerning the trees from which they were supposed to eat?

The serpent wanted to know whether God had indeed warned the man and the woman against eating from every tree present in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1).

How did the woman respond?

The woman told the serpent that they were free to eat from all the trees in the garden of Eden except the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:2-4).

How did the serpent trick the woman?

The serpent told the woman that after eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would not die, but instead, their eyes would be opened and they would be like God. Meaning, they would possess the ability to know what is good and what is evil. (Genesis 3:4-5)

Why did the woman eat the fruit from the forbidden tree?

Firstly, she saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes. Secondly, she was overtaken by the desire to become wise like God. (Genesis 3:6)

Where was the man when the serpent was conversing with the woman?

He was right there with her (Genesis 3:6).

Why did the serpent tempt the woman and not the man?

Brainstorm with scriptures.

What happened to them after eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?

Their eyes were opened, and they became aware that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves to cover themselves. (Genesis 3:7)

Where was God when the serpent was having a conversation with the woman?

Brainstorm with scriptures, for example, Psalms 139:7-12.

Why did Adam and his wife hide themselves from the presence of God in the garden of Eden?

Because they had come to understand that they were naked and didn’t want God to see them like that (Genesis 3:10).

Why did Adam tell God that it was the woman who made him eat the fruit from the forbidden tree?

He did not want to take personal responsibility for his disobedience. So by blaming the woman, Adam was indirectly blaming God because He is the one who had actually made the woman! (Genesis 3:12)

Why did the woman blame the serpent for her disobedience to God’s commandment?

Just like her husband, she did not want to own up to her disobedience and instead shifted the blame to the serpent. By extension, she was blaming God because He is the one who created the serpent! (Genesis 3:13)

What punishment did the serpent receive as a result of deceiving the woman?

·         The serpent was cursed more than all cattle and every beast of the field. (Genesis 3:14)

·         The serpent was condemned to crawling on its belly all the days of its life. (Genesis 3:14)

·         The serpent was condemned to eat dust all the days of its life (Genesis 3:14).

·         God put enmity between the serpent and the woman. God put enmity between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman. The seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent, whereas the serpent would bruise His heel. (Genesis 3:15)

What punishment did the woman receive as a result of heeding the serpent’s deception?

·         She would bring forth children in pain (Genesis 3:16).

·         Her desire would be for her husband (Genesis 3:16).

·         Her husband would rule over her (Genesis 3:16).

What punishment did Adam receive because of heeding the voice of his wife?

·         The ground was cursed such that in toil and sweat, the man would eat from it all the days of his life (Genesis 3:17, 19).

He killed an animal and used its hide to make covering/clothing for them. (Genesis 3:21)

Why did God drive Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden after they disobeyed Him?

·         Because they had become like God, that is, had acquired the ability to know good and evil. (Genesis 3:22)

·         To prevent them from eating the fruit from the tree of life and living forever as sinners (Genesis 3:22)

God placed a ………………………… and a …………………………………….  at the east of the garden in order to prevent Adam and Eve from going back there.

Cherubim, a flaming sword that turned every way. (Genesis 3:24)
