No weapon formed against you shall prosper, Bible verse meaning Isaiah 54:17

No weapon formed against you shall prosper

No weapon formed against you shall prosper. The Bible verse means that no evil plot hatched against the righteous can succeed. This is because they are the servants of God and thus are entitled to His protection from every enemy (Isaiah 54:17).

Here is the entire scripture from which the above excerpt has been derived.

‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from me,’ says the LORD.’

This scripture is like an insurance cover to every believer that no matter what kind of battle the enemy may mount against him, he will never succeed. This is because God’s word is ever true, and in this case, He has promised every believer that He will always be there to protect them.

Throughout scriptures we see evidence of God fighting for His people. Many are the times we see Him sending angels to defend and protect His servants from those who attack them. Let us sample a few examples.

The LORD God promised to fight against all the enemies of Israel as they journeyed from Egypt to Canaan (Exodus 14:14). Consequently, His Angel was ever present with them and saw to it that they were always safe. This is recorded in Exodus 23:20-22, which says,

“Behold, I sent an angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him and obey his voice; do not provoke him, for he will not pardon your transgressions, for my name is in him. But if you indeed obey his voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.”

In 2 Kings 19, we read about Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, who came to attack Israel during the reign of King Hezekiah. According to scripture, the kings of Assyria had indeed defeated and destroyed many nations in battle. So Sennacherib challenged King Hezekiah to battle, telling him that even God Himself could not save Israel. So Hezekiah cried to God for help, and God answered him. It so happened that on a certain night, God sent His angel into the camp of the Assyrians, who killed one hundred and eighty-five thousand soldiers (185,000)! And so Israel was delivered from the powerful enemy who had threatened to finish them.

In Psalms 34:7, the scriptures assure us that the angel of God always encamps around us to protect and deliver us from all our enemies. In Psalms 35:5-6, the scriptures reveal to us how the angel who guards us pursues our enemies and overtakes them. This angel further makes their way dark and slippery, causing them to stumble.

In Daniel 3, we come across the story of three Jews called Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These young men refused to worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had erected in the plain of Dura. So they were punished by being thrown into the burning fiery furnace that had been heated seven times above the norm. However, God sent His angel into the burning fiery furnace, who kept the fire from hurting the three men. And so they were delivered from their enemy king, Nebuchadnezzar.

In Daniel 6, we read about some envious men who came together and schemed to eliminate Daniel simply because he had gained much favor with Darius, the king of Babylon. In this plot, they convinced the king to pass a law that no one was to petition any other god apart from the king. They did this knowing very well that Daniel only prayed to the God of heaven and earth. So, after learning that the law had been signed, Daniel went home, and as was his custom, he opened his window that faced Jerusalem, knelt down, and prayed to God.

On witnessing all that Daniel had done, those evil men rushed to the king and informed him that Daniel had broken the law. So at the command of the king, Daniel was brought and then cast into the den of lions as punishment. However, God sent His angel into the den of lions, who shut their mouths. So the lions did not hurt Daniel.

The next morning, the king went to the den of lions to find out what had transpired over the previous night. He called out Daniel’s name, and Daniel answered back and told him how God had saved his life. So the king commanded that Daniel be brought out of the den.

Then, the king commanded that all the men who had plotted evil against Daniel be immediately seized, together with their wives and children. He then commanded that they all be cast into the den of lions. It is amazing to note that the lions broke all their bones before they even landed at the bottom of the den! Wow! That is how God fights for his faithful servants. So these evil men fell into the very pit they had dug for Daniel!

In the book of Esther, chapters 7 and 8, the Bible records how God delivered the Jews from a man called Haman. This evil man had schemed an evil plot to exterminate the Jews because Mordecai had refused to bow before him like other men at the king’s palace did. So on learning that Mordecai was a Jew, he decided to eliminate every Jew in that kingdom. Unknown to him, the queen of the land (that is, Esther) was also a Jew. So by wisdom and favor from God, Queen Esther managed to expose Haman’s evil scheme. At the end of it all, Haman was hanged on the very gallows that he had intended to hang Mordecai on. In addition, the king gave Queen Esther all authority over the house of Haman after he was hanged. So never joke with people that truly serve God. You may come face-to-face with the wrath of God Himself!

In Acts 12:7-11, scriptures also record how the angel of the LORD was sent to deliver the apostle Peter from prison. At first, Peter thought that he was dreaming but later on realized that it was actually happening in real time.

No weapon fashioned against you shall succeed because God is your shelter and your strong tower. Thus, when the enemy comes to attack you, he must first contend with God before getting to you (Psalm 61:3).

Psalm 121:5-8 teaches us that no weapon formed against you shall prosper because God is your keeper and your shade at your right hand. He will preserve you from all the evil intended against you.

In Psalm 91, God has promised that no evil shall befall you, nor any plagues overtake you, because He shall give His angels charge over you in order to protect you. Therefore, as long as you continue to dwell in the secret place of His presence, your protection is assured.

I hope this is helpful. God bless you.

Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To him who loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood and has made us kings and priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.’ (Revelation 1:4-6)
